Bruno Guimaraes makes promise to Newcastle supporters as he addresses Real Madrid transfer talk

Bruno Guimaraes has promised Newcastle United fans that he will give his all to end the club's trophy drought. You have to go back to 1969 for Newcastle's last trophy, the Fairs Cup, but supporters, staff, players and owners alike are all dreaming of silverware again after an upturn in the club's fortunes following the takeover.

Even the measured Eddie Howe has admitted he has visualised that moment. The owners are attempting to put the infrastructure in place to one day realise that dream and, on the field, the hierarchy already know they have a star who can grow with the club in Bruno.

Such have been the standard of Bruno's performances, Real Madrid have been credited with an interest but the Brazil international reiterated that such talk was 'just rumours' in an interview with Premier League Productions. Bruno stressed his focus was 'here at Newcastle' in the same chat and the midfielder would love nothing more than to win something with the Magpies.

"To be honest, it's a long time to spend without winning a trophy," he said. "I think a lot of fans have never seen Newcastle as champions and I arrived here with that objective: to put Newcastle up there winning trophies.

"I believed in the project from the beginning. The team and fans, especially, deserve it. It's a long, long time. We don't want to put pressure on ourselves but it's also something we have to think about, winning a title.

"I have to have that mentality where I want to be a champion, I want to win, and it's no different here. I can promise to the fans that I'll give my best on the pitch so Newcastle can be champions again."
