Bruno Guimaraes insists Newcastle 'can dream' about Champions League amid transfer admission

Bruno Guimaraes is adamant Newcastle United 'can dream' of playing in next season's Champions League following a stunning start to the season. Alexander Isak's last-minute winner against Fulham on Sunday lifted the Magpies back to third in the Premier League at the halfway point of their campaign.

Eddie Howe's side have tasted defeat just once in the top-flight so far, and face relegation battlers Southampton later this month for a place in the Carabao Cup final. The Newcastle head coach has repeatedly stressed it is a matter of taking it one match at a time, but this form coupled with performances has led many to speculate what the club could achieve.

The Magpies are currently sweating over the fitness of Guimaraes, who was withdrawn at half-time of the televised victory over Fulham with an ankle injury. An extended spell on the sidlelines for the Brazil international would leave Newcastle with only three central midfielders ahead of Saturday's visit to face Crystal Palace.

Guimaraes was interviewed ahead of the 1-0 victory over Marco Silva's side at St James' Park, and outlined his top-four aspirations for the club. The former Lyon star also insists that while Newcastle may have had trouble attracting transfer targets before, the revival now means 'everybody wants to join'.

He told Sky Sports: "We can dream about Champions League, we are playing in the semi-finals [of the Carabao Cup]. In the beginning, it was difficult.

"Not many players wanted to join the club, but now I think with the job that we are doing together everybody wants to join Newcastle. So I think the future for this club will be amazing."
