Bruno Guimaraes injury update as Newcastle United star leaves Brazil camp

Bruno Guimaraes has had his international break cut short through injury and has left his Brazil team-mates for an early return to Newcastle. Guimaraes picked up a thigh problem last week and was forced out of his country's first training session to be assessed by doctors.

The midfielder missed Brazil's 3-0 win over Ghana on Friday after failing to come off the bench and manager Tite has now cut him from his 26-man squad for the clash with Tunisia on Tuesday. Guimaraes will now continue his recovery on Tyneside as the Magpies sweat over the severity of his issue.

The 24-year-old only recently returned from a hamstring problem which sidelined him for three outings. Guimaraes featured for 72 minutes in the 1-1 draw with Bournemouth but is now a doubt for the trip to Fulham on Saturday. The player is said to have picked up swelling in his left thigh last week.

Guimaraes spent the weekend at Disneyland Paris as his Brazil team-mates enjoyed some downtime in the French capital where they have been staying in recent days. The Newcastle favourite took to Twitter on Sunday evening with a cryptic tweet over his current issue.

"I may be afflicted, but never defeated, I may even cry, I may even suffer," he tweeted. "But tomorrow will come and my faith will be rewarded. And my God does not fail, no!"

Guimaraes' withdrawal is yet another blow for Newcastle after a frustrating international break. Alexander Isak was also forced to leave Sweden's camp last week after picking up a niggle in training, while New Zealand's Chris Wood was forced off after just 33 minutes on Sunday with a rib injury.

Eddie Howe will be hopeful of having Callum Wilson, Allan Saint-Maximin and Elliot Anderson back in the fold on Saturday after struggling to find the net in recent games. The Newcastle boss will have the chance to assess both Guimaraes and Isak this week before making a call on their fitness for the Fulham outing.
