Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes is likely to miss this weekend’s Premier League clash against Crystal Palace despite avoiding a serious injury against Fulham.
The Brazilian limped off on Sunday during the Magpies 1-0 win against the Cottagers before leaving St James’ Park on crutches. Bruno had rolled his ankle earlier in the game and carried on after receiving treatment.
But a ‘distressed’ Bruno left the field in tears at half-time and was replaced for Allan Saint-Maximin in the second perioud. Bruno has been one of the most influential figures during Newcastle’s meteoric rise to the Premier League’s top four over the past year and there was an anxious wait over the seriousness of his injury.

Chronicle Live reports that the midfielder has avoided a serious injury and has not torn ankle ligaments, but a timeframe on his return is uncertain. Newcastle will face Crystal Palace in the Premier League this Saturday (January 21), before their two-legged encounter against Southampton in the Carabao Cup semi-finals.
But Sky Sports suggests there is a chance the midfielder could return for the Magpies double header against Southampton later this month. He is, however, expected to miss the trip to Selhurst Park this weekend, which would leave Newcastle with only three fit senior central midfielders in Joe Willock, Sean Longstaff and Joelinton for the Premier League fixture.
