Bruno Guimaraes has already shown Arsenal what they missed out on in Southampton vs Newcastle

Bruno Guimaraes has already shown Arsenal what they missed out on during Newcastle United's 2-1 win against Southampton.

The Gunners were heavily linked with a move for the Brazilian during the January transfer window before the Magpies eventually added him to Eddie Howe's ranks for a reported £40million.

However, Guimaraes has struggled for game time, playing just 41 minutes across five Premier League matches before he was handed his first start on Thursday night against the Saints.

And the 24-year-old illustrated his immense talent at Saint Mary's Stadium, scoring a fantastic backheel flick to hand the Tyneside-based club all three points on the evening and show Arsenal what they are missing.

football.london understands that the Gunners are targeting players in key positions this summer, including bringing in two new forwards, a central midfielder, plus potentially a back-up right-back.

Perhaps one midfielder who may end up leaving the Emirates Stadium this summer is Swiss maestro Granit Xhaka as Serie A giants Roma are expected to try and sign him again this summer, football.london understands.

Jose Mourinho' and Co tried to sign him last summer but the 29-year-old eventually extended his contract in north London.

Still, the former Borussia Monchengladbach star has claimed that any hate from supporters will not impact his future.

Speaking to an event hosted by the Arsenal Supporters' Trust, Xhaka said: "I say always [to] myself, 'The only one who can stop me is myself'.

"Of course, injuries and things like that can stop stop you as well, but nobody can stop me, not the people outside. This is why in my head I am so strong. I say that always [to] myself as well, 'I decide when I leave, nobody else, not the fans, not the people'.

"When I am not ready, I will leave. As long as I am ready and I feel good, and I feel I can help the team, I will be here. But because of the people? Because of a bad message? Because of the bad stuff they are doing, speaking and writing? No chance.

"The one thing is if you see the people face to face, they will never tell you something bad. This is what makes me upset.

"I have been in this business since I was 17, nearly 13 years, but I have a feeling that the abuse at the moment looks like it’s normal.

"For me, it doesn’t help anybody and I think this is something we can improve on, a lot."
