Bruno Guimaraes gives 'love' to Newcastle supporters after being named Fans' Footballer of the Year

Bruno Guimaraes has spoken of his 'love' for Newcastle United fans after being crowned Reach PLC's Fans' Footballer of the Year. The Brazil international saw off competition from Erling Haaland and Mo Salah to receive the award after a sensational start to life in the Premier League.

Eddie Howe chose to slowly introduce Guimaraes into the starting eleven following his January arrival from Lyon. However, the 25-year-old has quickly become one of the first names on the teamsheet after consistently impressing during Newcastle's revival.

Guimaraes easily saw off competition from club team-mates Miguel Almiron, Joelinton, and Kieran Trippier. The Newcastle midfielder has also denied Salah a hat-trick of victories by earning 8853 votes nationally to lift the award.

Guimaraes has returned to Tyneside following a disappointing World Cup campaign with Brazil, and could be in line to feature in the Carabao Cup fourth-round tie against Bournemouth on Tuesday night. The popular midfielder took to social media to thank fans for their votes, and has urged the club to build upon what has been a 'big year'.

He posted: "Thanks to everyone who voted for me! This really have been a big year for us! Let’s keeping the job! Love for our fans."
