Newcastle United got the new Premier League season off to a flying start with a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest at St James' Park. While Eddie Howe's men were unable to breakthrough Forest's defence in the first-half, two superb goals from Fabian Schar and Callum Wilson were enough to give the Magpies all three points in their season opener.
In truth, the 2-0 win was not reflective of how dominant Newcastle were. From the off, they controlled the game, displaying a level of intensity they failed to show during their season opener last term against West Ham.
While they could have been more clinical in front of goal, there was never really a doubt Howe and co wouldn't beat Forest. The likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton and Dan Burn all impressed against Steve Cooper's men and drew plenty of plaudits from Newcastle supporters in our fan player ratings survey.
