Bruno Guimaraes comforted by team-mates after Newcastle United rocked by ankle injury to star man

Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes left the field in a distressed manner after suffering an agonising ankle injury in the first half against Fulham.

After chasing down Joao Palhinha in the game he appeared to roll his ankle and tried to play through the pain barrier. Bruno needed treatment and then play was stopped as he had his ankle taped up.

But after signalling to the bench, it was clear that he was unable to carry on and as the realisation sunk in that he needed to come off, the player looked upset as the half came to an end.

Both Fulham's Willian and Sean Longstaff were seen comforting the former Lyon star. Newcastle needed a reshuffle at half-time and the Brazil star was replaced by Allan Saint-Maximin for the second half.

"He is one of the talents that can change the game with technique and confidence, so that’s definitely a game where those qualities are required," Sky Sports pundit Louis Saha said of Saint-Maximin at half-time.

Jamie Redknapp added: "Joelinton will go into midfield and he’ll go into that wide left role and go work his magic. He’ll get the crowd up, he’s exciting, obviously desperate for this chance. They’ve also got Isak who can come on with 20 minutes to go if they need it."
