Bruno Guimaraes scored a stunning goal against Southampton on Thursday in his first start for Newcastle.
Since arriving in the North East, the Brazillian has struggled to gain substantial minutes under his belt, largely because of the form of a rejuvenated Joelinton, who has given consistent quality within the engine room of the team.
But with Guimaraes excelling in the Magpies' 2-1 victory over Ralph Hasenhüttl's men in the absence of Joelinton, perhaps the 24-year-old has now done enough to become a regular starter.
Prior to joining Newcastle, it was reported that Arsenal were heavily interested in acquiring the services of the former Lyon midfielder.
But despite the reports linking Guimaraes with a move to many different clubs across Europe, the only firm offer came from the Tyneside-based club, according to the player himself.
"I did speak to some other clubs, but the only concrete offer came from Newcastle and I really wanted to come here," he said.
He then went on to say that he aspires to win both the Premier League and Champions League.
"If a club has a project and wants to aspire to the maximum, then it's going to involve winning the Champions League,” he said. "It's the biggest club competition in the world and obviously we're keen on winning the Premier League as well.
"The Premier League is fast and intense. Its physicality is similar to France but the Premier League is definitely faster but the best way to learn is by practising so when I play, I'll be able to learn quickly."
His dream of winning Europe's top-flight, however, would arguably have been easier had he pushed for a move to join Arsenal and given the fact that the Gunners are in pole position to finish in the top four, Mikel Arteta's three-year project - as revealed by former player Willian - could be achieved.
"One of the reasons I wanted a three-year deal was to be part of a plan, not just a player passing through," the Brazilian said after signing for the Gunners in the summer 2020 transfer window.
"When I talked with the manager he told me why he needed me for three years.
"It was that he first wanted to qualify for the Champions League and win it by the time I left. That was what I wanted to hear."
