Bruno Guimaraes and Miguel Almiron class overshadows big Newcastle United decision facing Eddie Howe

We have wondered at times where the goals were coming from but suddenly Newcastle have gorged themselves on nine in two games.

Happy anniversary. Happy Bruno, master magician. Happy Miggy, unlikely Magpie top scorer. Happy days. Ta Brentford, the most generous of visitors. Your help was unnecessary really but we accept all who come bearing gifts.

Wrongs have been righted. Wins have at last emerged to go with performances. And only one defeat in nine matches means a heady ride in the Premier League standings.

Five goals were notched without Callum Wilson getting one. Instead Bruno Guimaraes was the stand out name on the scoresheet as he can be because the guy simply oozes class.

When the going is tough the tough get going. He scored United's breakthrough first goal with a classic diving header after a well worked corner kick routine despite Brentford literally packing their penalty area with all 11 players and then after Ivan Toney brought them back into the game at 2-1 with a spot kick Bruno promptly ripped out their heart thrashing home a superlative solo effort.

If blondes have more fun then this one is certainly living up to the image. Boy, is he enjoying himself! Perhaps the biggest compliment Guimaraes can be paid is that he is capable of living amongst history's lofty Brazilians of velvet touch and driving ability without appearing out of place. He does a mighty soccer nation proud.

Wilson actually failed to score in a multi-goal romp, which might be a tad surprising, and even more of a shock is that Almiron now stands clear as United's top scorer with four goals cashing in on one of Brentford's many mistakes. However, his relentless work-rate deserved recognition and it was a nice way to celebrate his 100th Premier League start.

It is easy to overlook some star performers when scorers naturally hog the limelight but I thought Joe Willock was relentless in his drives from midfield, especially in the first-half, and Sven Botman is a Rolls Royce of a defender. Does he ever get flustered?

Eddie Howe seems to want to keep him and Dan Burn happy by shoe horning both into his back four but the giant Geordie was exposed here. He played left-back like a central defender, long legged and awkward with no passing range and no capability of breaking forward at pace to start or support attacks. And he gave away the penalty.

I have a lot of time for a player with a massive heart but frankly the decision is waiting to be made - Botman or Burn for one position. And it looks like the summer signing will eventually win the vote over the January import.

It was good to get some mileage into the legs of Allan Saint-Maximin and Joelinton after injury because they are important to the cause but the secret is to keep Bruno and Callum fit which is why both were brought off with the game won.

True this was not one of Wilson's classic performances but he is necessary as a focal point because without him United lack a line leader.

All in all this was a grand day of Takeover Celebration. Now we move on to confront Manchester United, Everton, and Tottenham in the space of eight days which will be a real tester.
