Bruno Fernandes thanks key worker with 'incredible' Manchester United gesture

Bruno Fernandes took the opportunity to give free tickets to a key worker for Manchester United's home game against Southampton last Saturday as a thank you for all their hard work throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

Back in January, the Portuguese star took to Twitter looking for people who had played extraordinary roles during the pandemic.

In his tweet, Fernandes said: "This pandemic has been a very difficult moment and we've only been able to get to this point due to the exceptional work of some people.

"If you know any of them, tag them in the comments and write their story. I have two tickets to give away for Man United as a thank you."

One of the people to respond to Fernandes' tweet was Tom George's girlfriend Bethany.

She responded: "Tom is my boyfriend who worked all throughout the pandemic as an NHS worker within Covid clinics, he never had a day off and helped so many people.

"I’m so proud of him and your team kept him going on those tough days, so thank you.”

Fernandes was touched by the response and gave the tickets to Tom for Saturday's game.

After the final whistle, Tom took to Twitter to thank the midfielder.

"A huge thank you to Bruno Fernandes for today," he posted.

"Really was an incredible gesture and amazing seats. Thank you so much for the experience.

"We’re Man United and we’re never gonna stop, the good times will come back one day."

Despite his disappointment at the result which saw Che Adams' strike cancel out a Jadon Sancho opener, Fernandes replied to Tom's words of gratitude.

He tweeted: "Thank you once again Tom George for all you have done during the pandemic.

"Unfortunately we were not able to get the result we wanted, but I am glad to have been able to offer you something back and that you enjoyed your trip to Old Trafford.

"We stick together, we keep pushing."
