Bruno Fernandes reveals Manchester United dressing room's reaction to Cristiano Ronaldo goal

Bruno Fernandes has admitted Manchester United's players were 'really happy' for Cristiano Ronaldo to score against Everton.

Although Ronaldo did not start against Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday night, Erik ten Hag substituted him onto the pitch early in the first half when Antony Martial was forced to withdraw with a hip injury that he sustained in the pre-match warm-up.

Ronaldo made an immediate impact after coming off the bench by scoring just before half-time. Casemiro, who was eventually named Man of the Match, played a wonderful pass to Ronaldo, who scored against Jordan Pickford with a well-taken strike.

That goal was Ronaldo's 700th career club goal and Fernandes joked the forward breaks records every week in his post-match interview. "We know what it's like to play against Everton," Fernandes told BT Sport when asked about the victory.

"When they get a corner, it seems like a goal for them, they are really dangerous and with their supporters it's really tough. We did well and defended really well. Great block from Marcus at the end and this is what it's about - togetherness and effort for the team.

"We didn't have a terrible start, we conceded a goal from nothing, but we played well and in the second half, last 20 minutes we could have done better. It's a big three points for us and important to get back on the winning track.

"We want to show this spirit, this togetherness and we need to carry on this, because this is what made us win four games in a row and made us win today. We knew the quality he [Antony] has, we know that all of the players up front have such good qualities.

"Antony's one of those. That's why the club paid that amount of money for him. We are really happy for him, but we want even more from him. Every week, it seems like a new record [Ronaldo] and obviously we are really happy.

"He's been working really hard to find his goal, last Thursday was tough for him, he tried hard and the goalkeeper made good saves and the post stopped him. But today he had the goal, we win and that's the most important for Cristiano, that the team wins."
