Bruno Fernandes reaches Manchester United milestone with goal against Crystal Palace

Bruno Fernandes has now been directly involved in 100 goals across all competitions for Manchester United.

Fernandes scored just before half-time against Crystal Palace on Wednesday night and that goal not only gave his side the lead, but the strike was his 100th goal contribution, a marker of an attacking player's effectiveness, since signing in January 2020.

The midfielder made his 150th appearance for the club against Bournemouth in the Premier League earlier this month and he's contributed an impressive 55 goals and 45 assists during that period, which has seen him become a fan favourite.

He's also scored 40 Premier League goals for United and Paul Scholes (107) is the only central midfielder in the club's history with more.

Fernandes was signed from Sporting Lisbon for an initial fee of £46.6million three years ago and he won the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award for his first six months at Old Trafford, which he won again in the following campaign.

The 28-year-old has retained his importance to the squad with Erik ten Hag in charge and he's made 26 starts this term, which is only matched by goalkeeper David de Gea.

Ten Hag played Fernandes on the right wing in the Manchester derby and he praised the player as his Man of the Match.

“The idea is with Bruno on the right wing and especially in defending,” Ten Hag said after the victory. “We defended as usual, but in possession, he had a role to come in between the lines to bring an extra player there and bring the opponent problems.

"I thought he played that role brilliantly. The rest of the team adapted well to the situation and we had really good breaks by finding the free man. Bruno was an important factor in that role and important in the pressing. He was my man of the match, definitely.”

Fernandes is contracted at the club until the summer of 2026.
