Bruno Fernandes makes emotional Manchester United demand after Carabao Cup win

Bruno Fernandes has set his sights on winning more silverware after Manchester United beat Newcastle United 2-0 in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley on Sunday.

A first-half header from Casemiro and an own-goal from Newcastle centre-back Sven Botman were enough to seal a hard-fought win for the Reds, who brought their six-year wait for a trophy to an end in the process. United had to defend for long spells in the second half but were strong and resolute enough to see the job through with relatively little fuss.

It marked United's first trophy win at the first attempt under manager Erik ten Hag, who has overseen a dramatic shift in standards at Old Trafford this season. They will now be looking to add to their collection before the end of the season, given they are still competing in another three competitions.

And adding to the Old Trafford trophy cabinet is Fernandes' ultimate goal. Victory at Wembley marked his first trophy win as a United player since joining the club from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020.

"It's an amazing feeling, honestly," Fernandes told Sky Sports. "We've been searching for this moment, us, the fans, the club, we are together and finally we get our trophy and I think deservedly.

"It's been an amazing period, obviously. This is the first trophy of the season but we want more. It's not enough for this club, we want more and we need more because our standards demand more.

"Obviously, as I said, for me it was about winning trophies and finally we did it. I am satisfied now because I finally get my trophy, but I want more."
