Bruno Fernandes makes demand to Man United dressing room after Southampton win
Bruno Fernandes has urged Manchester United's dressing room to maintain high standards for the rest of the season.
United beat Southampton 1-0 on Saturday afternoon and Fernandes scored the matchwinner in the second half. Fernandes' goal was an outstanding finish from the edge of the box and it was a strike worthy of winning the game at St. Mary's Stadium.
United's performance was not convincing, but they remained committed across the pitch and defended well throughout.
It was another spirited display from Erik ten Hag's side after Monday's win against Liverpool and it was another much-needed three points. Fernandes reflected on the performance after the match and he urged his teammates to continue to play with spirit.
Paul Scholes praises four Man United players after Southampton win
Paul Scholes praised Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes for their involvement in Manchester United's winning goal against Southampton on Saturday afternoon, also commending the performances of Lisandro Martinez and left-back Tyrell Malacia.
Fernandes scored the only goal of the game against the Saints in the 55th minute, with the away side able to see out the remainder of the tie despite late pressure from Southampton.
Speaking after the match, United legend Scholes praised Dalot for his inviting cross, and Fernandes for his clever finish.
"The ball from Dalot, he puts a good cross in, the movement all round. It’s the pull-back, you see them try and smash it across goal, he’s got his head up and seen the cutback and put a lot of pace on it," Scholes said.
