Bruno Fernandes leads Man United inquest after Liverpool game as Gary Lineker embarrasses squad

Here are your Manchester United evening headlines for Wednesday, April 20.

Bruno Fernandes holds dressing room inquest

Bruno Fernandes led the inquest into Manchester United's abysmal defeat at Liverpool in the dressing room at full-time. Jurgen Klopp's side thumped United 4-0 at Anfield, having pummeled them 5-0 at Old Trafford in October, in what was United's ninth Premier League defeat of the season.

Captain Harry Maguire attempted to gee up his teammates before kick-off but was heavily culpable for United's surrender and Fernandes spoke to broadcasters Sky Sports. Interim manager Ralf Rangnick was critical in his assessment of United's performance, accusing the players of being 'afraid to be outplayed'.

Rangnick admitted he was as blunt with the players in the dressing room as he was in his post-match press conference. United had a 10-15 minute resurgence in the second half and had their only two shots in that spell but their fightback was extinguished when Sadio Mane expertly finished.

Gary Lineker embarrasses Man United in eight-words

Gary Lineker claimed that Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker was playing better than any United player in the opening exchanges at Anfield. The deadlock was broken after just five minutes as Klopp's attack waltzed through United's five-man rearguard with Luis Diaz slamming home.

United's defence were helpless for the hosts' second after a passage of nimble play and a stunning pass by Mane that was finished off by Mohamed Salah. Alisson was busy in the opening stages receiving a number of backpasses but eased by the challenges of the United press inside his 18-yard box.

It was a grim half for United as they completed just 92 passes in the opening 45 minutes compared to Liverpool's 401.
