Bruno Fernandes issues response to Man Utd letting "special" Anthony Martial leave

Bruno Fernandes hailed his "special" connection with Anthony Martial in a touching social media post as his Manchester United teammate departed the club.

Martial, 26, has moved to Sevilla on loan until the summer having played a minor role this season due to injuries and poor form.

The French forward has scored just one goal in 11 appearances and has only played eight minutes of football since Ralf Rangnick took over from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the hot seat.

But he has the chance to rekindle his form with Sevilla, who are chasing a first La Liga triumph since 1946 and sit just four points behind leaders Real Madrid.

Martial certainly has the ability to contribute to a title charge having scored a career-best 23 goals in the 2019/20 season.

Fernandes arrived at Old Trafford midway through that campaign and the Portuguese playmaker admits he will miss lining up alongside Martial.

He wrote on Instagram: "My friend... our connection on and off the pitch was always special. Wish you all the best for the rest of the season. Go and shine bro @martial_9."

Sevilla have the best defensive record in the Spanish top flight but they have struggled going forward with 34 goals scored compared to Los Blancos' 47.

Manager Julen Lopetegui will hope Martial can help inspire his side's attack, which also includes former Tottenham winger Erik Lamela.

Coincidentally, the Sevilla boss is one of four coaches United chiefs are considering to become their next permanent manager when Rangnick's spell as interim ends this summer.

If Martial impresses during his short stint at Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium, he would be sure to play a prominent role under Lopetegui if he was appointed Red Devils manager.

In the meantime, the former Monaco man - who joined United for an initial £36million rising to £57.6million in 2015 - must focus on rediscovering his goalscoring form.

He posted a simple message on Instagram, writing: "New chapter."

Martial received plenty of encouragement in the comments section from ex-teammates including Marcos Rojo, Joel Pereira, Morgan Schneiderlin and Odion Ighalo.

Marcus Rashford also sent him a message via social media, writing: "Good luck my brother @AnthonyMartial."

Martial - who occupies the iconic No.9 shirt at United - will have 22 on his back for Sevilla.

He will hope to thrust himself into the conversation for involvement at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar having been left out of Didier Deschamps' France squad for their victorious 2018 campaign in Russia.
