Bruno Fernandes has told Erik ten Hag his ideal next Manchester United striker

Manchester United need to sign a quality centre-forward this summer and Goncalo Ramos is capable of filling the void - in the eyes of Bruno Fernandes.

The Benfica forward stole the headlines last winter, when he scored a hat-trick for Portugal in the World Cup. Ramos, an international team mate of Fernandes', is one striker who is on the club's radar this summer. Harry Kane, Victor Osimhen, Rasmus Hojlund and Randal Kolu Muani are the other leading targets.

Ramos, 22, won't come cheap, with the asking price of Eagles president Rui Costa set at €80million. It's claimed that Costa believes clubs like United and Paris Saint-Germain will come close to meeting the figure this summer. United look like being priced out of moves for Kane and Osimhen, while Hojlund has been earmarked as one-for-the-future.

And while Ramos is young too, his experience and goals on the biggest stages - the World Cup and Champions League - make him an attractive option. Fernandes certainly believes that Ramos has the qualities to excel in the Premier League, with the majority of leading marksmen in the English top-flight physical powerhouses.

"The best always come in handy, be it Goncalo or another player," Fernandes told Sport TV earlier this year. "I think he has all the qualities to play in the Premier League, and when I say Premier League I also mean Manchester United. I think he could become a great reference in the coming years, but it's still not in my hands to be sports director."

Fernandes added: "Goncalo has all the conditions to play in the Premier League. He is very intense, presses very well and is very good inside the area. He surprised me in the national team, not only me but the rest of my teammates. He's physically strong, he's still young and he's going to get better.

"If he continues to work as he has been doing, I think he has the potential to be one of the best strikers in the world, but he needs to go to a more competitive league to prove it."
