Bruce Willis makes rare public appearance in LA after wildfires amid dementia battle

Bruce Willis has been spotted on a rare public outing in California amid his dementia battle.

The actor, 69, was seen being driven around the San Fernando Valley neighbourhood after the Los Angeles wildfires, in photos obtained by the Daily Mail.

The Die Hard actor remained inside the car during the drive, looking casual in a T-shirt and looking out the window.

Willis has stayed largely out of the spotlight since he was diagnosed with aphasia in 2022 - a language disorder that affects how you communicate - and retired from acting.

In 2023, the star’s family revealed he also has frontotemporal dementia, an aggressive and rare form of the condition.

His drive around Los Angeles comes just days after he personally thanked first responders who have battled the devastating fires.

His wife Emma Heming, 46, shared a moving video of Willis shaking hands with an officer, who told him: “We appreciate you.”

She wrote on Instagram: “Spotting a first responder, Bruce never missed a chance to show his gratitude with a heartfelt handshake and a ‘thank you for your service.’ Yesterday was no different.”

Large areas of southern California, including areas surrounding Los Angeles, were threatened by a series of fires earlier this month, which forced thousands to evacuate and torched thousands of homes.

The area scorched by the major fires is equal to three times the size of Manhattan.

Willis has two daughters, Mabel Ray, 12, and Evelyn, 10, with Heming.

He is also father to daughters Rumer, 36, Scout, 32, and Tallulah, 30, with his ex-wife Demi Moore, 61.

Last month, Heming explained how she has approached teaching her young daughters about Willis’ condition.

Last October Emma opened up about their journey, emphasizing that she doesn’t 'shield' their young daughters from the reality of Bruce’s condition.

“I've never tried to sugarcoat anything for them. They've grown up with Bruce declining over the years. I'm not trying to shield them from it,” the model told Town & Country Magazine.

“What I learned from our therapist was that if children ask questions, they're ready to know the answer.

“If we could see that Bruce was struggling, I would address it with the kids so they could understand, but this disease is chronic, progressive and terminal.”
