Bruce Springsteen tribute band to rock the same Newcastle stage he did 41 years ago

A Bruce Springsteen tribute band is set to take to the same Newcastle stage this weekend as the star did 41 years ago.

The Sound Of Springsteen will play at the O2 City Hall in Newcastle’s city centre on Saturday, 10 September. The band follows in the footsteps of the legend himself, who played at the venue in May 1981 .

Backed by his E Street Band, Springsteen treated Tyneside fans to his biggest hits as part of a mammoth 140-date world tour for his album The River. The show was so electrifying that the Born To Run singer would later go on to say that Newcastle was in the top three best shows of the whole tour.

The City Hall’s then-manager, Peter Brennan, told the Chronicle years later: “I have been here for 30 years and still to this day it is the best concert we’ve had at the City Hall. Nothing has matched it.

“Some have come close but there’s been nothing as good. I got to watch the concert and marvel at the man.”

Now fans have a chance to relive the epic concert 41 years on, with eight-piece tribute band The Sound Of Springsteen promising a night ‘not to be missed’ with a set list of Bruce’s greatest hits from Born In The USA to Dancing In The Dark. Formed in late 2017 from a real passion for Springsteen’s music, the band have been touring the UK since the start of the year and are stopping in Newcastle for one night only before continuing across the rest of the country into July 2023.

The band said: “It’s a true honour to play tribute to The Boss and re-live a fantastic night on the very same stage.” There are still tickets available for The Sound Of Springsteen which can be purchased via the O2 City Hall website .
