Bruce Springsteen has given an update as he continues to battle peptic ulcer disease.
The legendary US rocker, 74, was forced to postpone the remainder of his 2023 live tour last month due to his illness.
A statement at the time said that the Born To Run hit-maker had “continued to recover steadily”, but that he had been advised to “continue treatment through the rest of the year”.
Last week, Springsteen, known as “The Boss”, announced rescheduled US dates with The E Street Band for 2024.
Then, during Tuesday’s edition of Springsteen’s From My Home To Yours series on SiriusXM, he introduced himself as “your favourite rock star with a b***h of a bellyache”.
“Let me take a moment and thank my fans affected by our postponed shows for their understanding,” he continued. “I am deeply sorry but this belly thing, despite my ability to laugh at it, has been a monster and is still unfortunately rocking my internal world.”
Springsteen’s last show before he was forced to pull the plug was on September 3 at East Rutherford’s MetLife Stadium, in his native New Jersey.
His gruelling tour schedule also saw him and his band play two huge outdoor concerts at BST Hyde Park in London over the summer where the runtime of each stretched to a jaw-dropping three hours.
The Standard hailed Brucesteen as “an unrelenting rock spectacular” in its four star review.
“Though he’s more going-for-it-grandpa than hi-octane James Dean these days, there was still an unquenchable power and charm to Springsteen’s presence, whether belting out Badlands or Thunder Road, venturing out to the crowd barriers to fist-bump toddlers or waggling his backside at the onstage cameras,” noted journalist Mark Beaumont.
