Bruce Springsteen enjoys a browse through Trinity College's famous library

Bruce Springsteen took a break from wowing concert fans to view the Book of Kells at the weekend.

The Boss visited Dublin’s Trinity College Library to see the 9th century manuscript, before delighting punters by dropping into The Long Hall pub on George’s Street for a drink. Springsteen, 73, was also spotted chowing down on a fish and chips at Leo Burdock in Christchurch.

The owner of the 110-year-old chipper has hailed Bruce as a “genuinely nice guy” after he visited the iconic Dublin institution. Charlie McGrachan took a photograph of the rock legend with his staff.

A delighted Charlie told us: “When he comes to town, over the last 10 or 12 times, we’ve managed to get him in. He’s become a regular.

“He’s such a nice guy. He’s great with any of the regular staff. He has no problem letting people take photos of him. Just genuine. Real nice person.”

Bruce also cheered up another Charlie in the form of broadcaster Charlie Bird, who he had paid tribute to on stage during his first concert at Dublin’s RDS on Friday night. Charlie, who was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 2021, has previously said that meeting New Jersey rocker The Boss was the last item on his bucket list.

Bird confirmed he had finally met with Springsteen before the star’s gig at the South Dublin venue. He wrote: “I was blown away, brought to meet Bruce Springsteen backstage before the concert.

“We had a couple of hugs and I used my voice app to talk to him.” During the concert, Springsteen dedicated a breathtaking performance of his song Land Of Hope and Dreams to “my friend Charlie Bird”.

The Boss certainly lived up to his name as he commanded the stage with aplomb last night during a three-and-a-half hour set that had his fans dancing in delight. And the good news for Bruce fanatics is that there is still one more concert to come, with the star playing the last of his three RDS sets tomorrow night.

Bruce has been welcomed each night by his loving fans, many of whom have kitted themselves out in American-themed outfits for the gigs.
