The Cleveland Browns are jumpstarting their search for a new offensive coordinator with an internal candidate, tight ends coach Tommy Rees.
According to The OBR’s Brad Stainbrook, Rees will get the first crack at filling the vacancy left by the fired Ken Dorsey. Not only that, but Stainbrook reports that the interest is serious.

It has been rumored that Mike Vrabel, who spent a season consulting with the Browns also wants Rees’ services as the offensive coordinator of whichever job he chooses to take.
This was Rees’ first season with the Browns after he spent most of his college career as an offensive coordinator. He was the play-caller for both Notre Dame and Alabama before wading into NFL waters.
Coaching tight ends in Cleveland typically comes with some secondary responsibilities as the quarterbacks coach as well. Under head coach Kevin Stefanski, the Browns have only had one quarterbacks coach: now offensive coordinator of the Arizona Cardinals Drew Petzing, and he was only promoted so he would not take a job elsewhere.
So we’ll see. With Stefanski likely taking back play-calling, Rees might opt to follow Vrabel anyway for the chance to have that responsibility.
