The Cleveland Browns have signed a backup quarterback, and his name is not Joe Flacco. And the NFL rumor is the Browns never even gave Flacco a formal offer to return to the team.
Actually, it is not even a rumor. According to his agent, Cleveland, while they had talks, did not present the 40-year-old quarterback with a contract.
Instead, the Browns opted to sign former first overall pick Jameis Winston to a one-year deal that could be worth up to $8.7 million. Flacco will continue to look for another team after a magical six-game run with the Browns that ended in a playoff loss to the Houston Texans.
Flacco will be remembered fondly, however, as he stepped in down the stretch and led the Browns to a record of 4-1. He threw for over 300 yards in three straight games, lighting up the scoreboard during his tenure under center in Cleveland.
Best of luck to Flacco as he looks for his next opportunity.
