After attempting to trade quarterback Tyler Huntley and rostering him on their initial 53-man roster, the Cleveland Browns are now releasing the veteran quarterback.
This felt like the likely outcome after the Los Angeles Chargers opted to trade for Taylor Heinicke rather than Huntley to upgrade their backup quarterback situation.
It was evident that the Browns were never going to roster four quarterbacks, however, they gave themselves a bit more time to try to find a trade partner for Huntley by putting him on their initial 53-man roster. This leaves the Browns with Deshaun Watson, Jameis Winston, and Dorian Thompson-Robinson as their three rostered quarterbacks.
Look for Huntley to return to the practice squad in Cleveland. He does not have to subject himself to the waiver wire as a vested veteran, so he could re-sign at any moment anywhere around the league.
He will likely feel out if there are any spots on 53-man rosters around the league for him, but if he cannot find a roster spot expect him back in Berea.
