Browns QB Joe Flacco reverts back to practice squad, could sign with another team

Joe Flacco is back on the Cleveland Browns practice squad despite being named the team’s starting quarterback for the rest of the 2023 season.

This has been the case for the past few weeks since he signed with the Browns but is a bit more significant now that he can technically sign with any other team. However, Flacco reportedly wants to stay in Cleveland despite interest from other teams, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

More than likely, the Browns will sign Flacco to the active roster for the rest of the year. He had an elite performance in Cleveland’s Week 14 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars with 311 passing yards and three touchdowns and has complete control of the offense as the Browns careen toward the postseason.

But, other teams could use quarterback help for the rest of the year. Some may be able to offer more money than the Browns, too. The Los Angeles Chargers lost Justin Herbert to a fractured index finger and the rest of his season is in question. The Minnesota Vikings haven’t been good in recent weeks with Joshua Dobbs, either. The Houston Texans might need a spot starter as well with C.J. Stroud in the concussion protocol.

As Schefter reported, though, Flacco seems happy in Cleveland. He said he felt “like a 10-year-old again” after the huge win and the Browns have a good shot at the playoffs. Business is business, though, and the 38-year-old might want to strike while the iron is hot as his career trends toward its end.
