Browns QB Deshaun Watson to Miss Second Straight Game Due to Injury

The Browns ruled quarterback Deshaun Watson out for Sunday’s game against the 49ers on Friday, meaning backup P.J. Walker will make the start.

Watson injured his throwing shoulder in Week 3 against the Titans, and the injury forced him to miss the team’s subsequent game against the Ravens. Despite recovering last week on a bye, Watson didn’t return to practice this week and will miss his second consecutive game.

Although Dorian Thompson-Robinson started two weeks ago, the rookie struggled against the Ravens, recording just 121 passing yards and three interceptions. Now, Cleveland will turn to Walker, as the veteran will make his first start as a member of the Browns while Thompson-Robinson serves as the backup.

Walker spent the past three seasons with the Panthers, starting seven games while playing in 15 total, but he accumulated just five touchdown passes to 11 interceptions with Carolina. Cleveland (2-2) plays host to the 49ers (5-0), who have given up just seven total touchdowns all season, on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
