Browns make QB Jacoby Brissett’s signing official

Friday was a big day for the Cleveland Browns as they finally faced the media and answered questions about the acquisition of QB Deshaun Watson. Watson continued to state he never assaulted or disrespected any women. Owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam affirmed their comfort with Watson as a person and the legal system to sort things out.

There are still a lot of questions surrounding the quarterback position. Case Keenum was dealt to the Buffalo Bills. Baker Mayfield remains on the roster despite a trade request and Watson seems likely for a lengthy suspension.

It had been reported last weekend that Cleveland would be bringing in QB Jacoby Brissett to add to the group. Friday, the team confirmed that move:

The Browns on Friday signed six-year veteran QB Jacoby Brissett.

Brissett will join his fourth NFL team since entering the league in 2016 and has played 60 games with 37 starts. He’s passed for 7,772 yards, 36 touchdowns and 17 interceptions, including 1,281 yards, five touchdowns and four interceptions in 11 games and five starts with the Miami Dolphins last season.

It is expected that Brissett would start for the team during any Watson suspension. Mayfield is expected to be on another team by that point in time.
