After defeating the Ravens in the latest intense clash between the storied rivals, Browns cornerback Denzel Ward didn’t mince his words when discussing the play that led to his early exit in Week 10.
Ward, 26, was ruled out of Cleveland’s 33–31 road win in the third quarter after being blindsided by a hit from Ravens offensive lineman Ronnie Stanley as he tried to tackle receiver Zay Flowers in the first quarter. Ward’s injury was, initially, deemed as a “head injury” and later labeled as a “neck injury” after he cleared the concussion protocol.
While speaking to reporters on Thursday, Ward reflected on Stanley’s big hit, which did not result in a flag, leading to the two-time Pro Bowler stating that he felt like the blow was a “cheap shot” before chalking it up as a random act of aggression on game day.
“I felt it was an unnecessary hit and probably could’ve been a penalty on the play. But, it’s football, stuff happens so, it’s all good, I don’t wish no bad on nobody,” Ward said.

Despite missing the bulk of Sunday’s game, Ward managed to join the Browns for practice ahead of Week 11, logging a limited and full sessions on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.
In Week 11, Ward and Cleveland will move on to another rivalry game against the Steelers.
