One step closer to winning the award next month, Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett was voted as the Pro Football Writer’s Association’s Defensive Player of the Year.
Despite only recording one sack over his last seven games, Garrett continued to lead the NFL in pressures and pass rush win rate despite finding his name near the top of the league in double-teams. General manager Andrew Berry reiterated that sack numbers are not the key to a disruptive pass rusher, but the pressures that cause the quarterback to act irrationally are.
And nobody is better at that than Garrett.
Garrett finished the season with 14 sacks, adding another 17 tackles for loss, and four forced fumbles. He has already been named to another Pro Bowl and as a First Team All-Pro.
Now we wait and see if Garrett wins the AP Defensive Player of the Year at the NFL Honors on February 8. If he does, he would become the first player in Browns’ franchise history to take home the award.
The awards are starting to stack up for @Flash_Garrett!@PFWAwriters have named Myles their Defensive Player of the Year!! 👏
