Brown University has identified approximately 130 students who are alleged to have violated the school's conduct code by setting up encampments on campus, as reported by a university spokesperson. The Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards at Brown University has contacted these students, who were identified through ID checks, according to spokesperson Brian Clark.
On Wednesday morning, an encampment of around 90 individuals was discovered on the university's Providence, Rhode Island campus. Brown University stated that encampments on its historic and residential greens are strictly prohibited by university policy. Participants in the encampment were verbally informed of this policy violation and were advised that they would be subject to conduct proceedings.
Students found responsible for the encampment will face disciplinary actions based on their behavior and other factors, including any previous conduct violations. The university mentioned that potential consequences for the students could range from probation to separation from the school.
The university continues to request individuals within or near the encampment to present their Brown University IDs for two primary reasons: to confirm their association with the university for safety and security purposes, and to address any potential policy violations appropriately.
