Brothers rescued after being lost for close to four weeks in Amazon rainforest

Two brothers are rescued from the Brazilian Amazon after being lost since mid-February.

Two young brothers have been found alive after being lost in the Amazon rainforest for weeks.

The Amazonas state government said the boys, named Gleicon and Glauco, aged seven and nine, were taken to hospital with severe malnutrition and dehydration.

They were found on Tuesday after being missing since February 18.

Their father Cloudinor Ribeiro Ferreira said hundreds of people had been searching for the pair only for them to be discovered by a man who was in the rainforest cutting wood.

"We were 260 people [looking for them], and we couldn't find them. The PM [military police], civil police, fire department and Funai [National Indian Foundation] were there, but we couldn't find them," he said.

"They were found when they heard him [the wood-cutter] moving.

"When they got there, they [the brothers] were lying down."

The boys were transported by air to a children's hospital in Manaus on Thursday.

Video showed them being loaded into an ambulance on wheelchairs.

They will remain in hospital until they can eat normally again.
