Gonzaga has landed the commitment of Creighton transfer Ryan Nembhard, the younger brother of former Bulldogs guard Andrew Nembhard, who now plays for the Pacers in the NBA.
Ryan Nembhard posted his commitment decision on social media Friday morning.
Nembhard is a monumental portal pickup for the ‘Zags, as he was one of the top point guards available on the transfer market this offseason. He started 64 games over the past two seasons for the Blue Jays, averaging 11.8 points, 4.6 assists and 3.6 rebounds.
Nembhard played a key role in Creighton’s run to the Elite Eight this past season, and now will join the Bulldogs to lead Mark Few’s offensive attack next season. Ryan followed in the footsteps of his brother Andrew, who started his college career at Florida before transferring to Gonzaga, eventually landing in the NBA.
Gonzaga beat out Arizona for Nembhard’s commitment. The Wildcats were heavily linked to the point guard due to their coach Tommy Lloyd, who was a former assistant under Few at Gonzaga and knows the Nembhard family well.
Gonzaga will be rebuilding next season, but is still expected to be one of the nation’s top programs once again. The commitment of Nembhard solidifies it.
