A brother has been charged with murdering three of his siblings.
Andy Cash, 24, is accused of killing his 18-year-old sister Lisa Cash as well as his twin siblings Chelsea and Christy Cawley, eight, at an address in Tallaght, Dublin, on Sunday, September 4. Cash appeared during a special late night court hearing at Dublin's Central Criminal Court on Monday.
As reported by Belfast Live, the defendant, dressed in a grey top and tracksuit bottoms, remained silent during the sitting which was taken by Judge Patricia McNamara. Cash stood briefly to acknowledge his presence when asked by the judge and police officer Robert Whitty said the accused had been charged at 7.43pm.
The court heard Cash said “no comment” when each of the charges were put to him. A solicitor for the defendant asked that his client be given legal aid.
He also stated that he would be seeking a psychological assessment for his client. Cash’s solicitor also stated that he was seeking his client be placed into “solitary confinement” while on remand in prison.
The judge stated that this would be a matter for the governor and said she would note that he was seeking a psychological assessment. The defendant was remanded in custody, as a bail application for a murder charge can only be granted by the High Court.
Earlier, a vigil was held in memory of the siblings with a large crowd gathered outside the house on Rossfield Avenue to mourn alongside family and friends. The victims’ 14-year-old brother was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries after the incident.
Their mother, a woman in her 40s, was released from hospital on Sunday and is being supported by her family. Officers were called to a property in the Rossfield estate at about 12.30am on Sunday.
