Brooks Koepka’s LIV Golf move confirmed as Greg Norman praises new addition

Four-time major winner Brooks Koepka has been confirmed as LIV Golf's latest headline signing, ahead of the breakaway circuit's second event in Portland next week. Koepka's move had been widely reported on Tuesday and now the announcement has been made official by LIV Golf bosses.

Koepka joins the likes of Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and olde foe Bryson DeChambeau in making the controversial Saudi switch, and in doing so is set to be suspended by the PGA Tour. The American did compete at last week's US Open, but was confirmed as a withdrawal from tomorrow's PGA Tour event the Travelers Championship in Connecticut.

In a statement LIV Golf confirmed that Koepka would be teeing it up at the series' second event in Portland last week, after the circuit kicked off at Centurion Club in St Albans earlier this month.

The statement read: "LIV Golf today announced that four-time major champion and former world No. 1 Brooks Koepka has joined LIV Golf and will compete in the LIV Golf Invitational Portland, kicking off June 30 at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in Oregon. " As part of the announcement, LIV CEO Greg Norman also had his say of the signing, and spoke highly of his newest recruit.

Describing him as 'one of the most elite players in the world', Norman said: "There’s no understating the impact that Brooks Koepka has had on the game of golf in the last five years. He carries a championship pedigree and record of success as one of the most elite players in the world.

"The addition of Brooks is yet another example of the incredible fields LIV Golf is assembling as we build momentum in our first season and look towards the future.” Koepka's move comes just days, after the American revealed that he had not 'given it that much thought' when asked about whether he was considering a move at last week's US Open.

Speaking at Brookline, Koepka told reporters: "I mean I haven’t given it that much thought.” Struggling over his words, he went on to add: “I am just trying to focus on the US Open man. I am tired of all these conversations, I am tired of all this stuff.

"You are throwing a black cloud over the US Open, and that sucks. I actually do feel bad for them for once. I mean it is a s****y situation. We are here to play and you are talking about an event that happened last week.”
