Dillon Brooks and Draymond Green continued their bitter war of words on Thursday night after the Grizzlies earned a decisive 131–110 victory over the Warriors in Memphis.
Brooks and Green spent the past week further intensifying the increasingly bitter on-court feud between the Western Conference rivals by adding to their personal beef with a series of biting remarks aimed at one another. During Thursday’s matchup, the pair’s animosity (literally) came to a head as Brooks and Green met face-to-face after the Grizzlies guard scored a layup to give his team a 74–57 lead late in the second quarter.
After the game, Brooks took time to send more barbs Green’s way after he was asked what his message to the four-time NBA champion and All-Star was during their brief altercation.
“That’s what I do, I talk,” Brooks began. “I told him that keep that mic, you’re better at the mic than hooping, you know what I’m saying? So, keep doing his podcast, keep blogging, keep doing his thing off the court. It’s cute, it’s fun for him.”
Before he left, Brooks made sure to get one more jab in after he was commended on having a good game. He finished the contest with 14 points, six assists and four rebounds on 6-of-15 shooting, and 1-of-7 from beyond the arc.
“You should give the mic to Draymond. Make him keep talking about me so I can play better,” Brooks added.
As expected, Green later offered a retort during his post-game press conference, where he was asked about the in-game run-in. Green, who previously called Brooks an “idiot” and criticized his basketball IQ, then proceeded to tell the reporters that he was not phased by the 27-year–old’s actions.
“He thought he was baiting me, like he gets baited. I get technical fouls when I want to get the technical fouls, I don’t get baited,” said Green, who logged 16 points, seven assists and five rebounds on 5-of-9 shooting. “So I think that’s probably the difference between me and him. I do that to him, it would be a double tech because he would respond. But it’s not a double tech because I didn’t respond. One of us [is] baitable and one of us [isn’t] and that’s just kind of how it goes.”
With the tension seemingly intensifying as time goes on, it should come as no surprise that Brooks and Green had more to say about each other after the latest meeting between the teams. And, with the Grizzlies and Warriors slated for a fourth and final showdown on March 18, there’s surely more jawing to come.
