Less than a week ago, oddsmakers had Brooklyn’s over/under at 45.5 wins, based on the uncertainty surrounding the team. Maybe you bet the under, fearing Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving would be elsewhere during the 2022-23 season. If you’re like me, you stayed away from that line altogether.
But a smart (risky) gambler took the over on those win totals while the dip was low enough, banking on the Nets’ chaotic offseason to end in unity.
Things were messy for the Brooklyn Nets at the time. KD had reportedly met with Nets owner Joe Tsai and gave some sort of ultimatum. The Kyrie situation was still in the air, and as a result, the Nets’ 2022-23 season was looking like it would be weird.
Today, it still seems like it’ll be a weird season, but at least it’ll be weird with good players.
With Brooklyn and KD agreeing to continue forward with their partnership, and Kyrie likely staying put, you won’t find that 45.5-win line anywhere today following this morning’s news out of Brooklyn.
Are you willing to jump up well into the 50s where oddsmakers are setting the new line as high as 51.5 and even 52.5 wins?
A bet on the Nets hitting the over would imply them cracking 50 wins for the first time since the 2001-02 season. And it would mean another Herculean season from Durant, which seems unlikely.
Whether those win totals are ones to bet on is your call.
