President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly considering naming one of his former policy advisers, Brooke Rollins, as the next secretary of the Department of Agriculture. While the nomination is not yet official, sources familiar with the discussions have indicated that Rollins is expected to be chosen for the position.
Initially, there were speculations that businesswoman and former Georgia Sen. Kelly Loeffler might be offered the role. Loeffler had met with Trump at Mar-a-Lago, and there were ongoing discussions between her and the transition team. However, Trump refrained from making an announcement amidst a series of other appointments, leaving uncertainty about Loeffler's potential appointment.
Brooke Rollins currently serves as the CEO of the America First Policy Institute, a group closely associated with Trump's transition team. She has been a vocal supporter of the president-elect, expressing her admiration for his 'America First' vision following his election victory earlier this month.
Rollins had previously been considered for the position of White House chief of staff but withdrew from contention due to potential power struggles. She expressed interest in the secretary of agriculture role to the transition team, leading to discussions with Trump about the position.
During Trump's first term, Rollins held the position of White House Domestic Policy Council director. Prior to that, she had a 15-year tenure as the president of the Texas Public Policy Foundation, a conservative think tank.
