Broncos WR Courtland Sutton won’t stop scoring

Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton made an absolutely beautiful touchdown catch against the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football in Week 10.

Sutton has now hauled in a touchdown catch in four straight games, making him the first Bronco to do so since former tight end Julius Thomas in 2014. The score also marked Sutton’s seventh touchdown of the season, a new career high for the sixth-year receiver.

“We drove all the way down there, kind of get outside the pocket, kind of do a little double spin, and Courtland’s sitting right in the corner. I mean, unbelievable toe-tap catch,” quarterback Russell Wilson said of Sutton’s impressive catch.

One day after the game, coach Sean Payton explained that Buffalo was actually in a perfect defense to defend the play he called, but Wilson’s improvisation and Sutton’s toe-tapping made the difference.

“If you had told me, ‘Alright, fourth-and-2, give me a play you like,’ and we felt like we had one, and then you had told me, ‘Freeze the film midway through that play,’ I would have kicked a field goal,” Payton said Tuesday. “They played coverage.

“They played more of a two-deep shell to it. We were expecting a man-look. We wanted to be aggressive and we felt like we had a play we liked. That all being said, certainly they defended it well, then Russell and Courtland made a fabulous play.”

Sutton’s seven touchdown catches this season are tied with Stefon Diggs and Jordan Addison for the second-most in the NFL. Only Tyreek Hill (eight) has more touchdown catches than Sutton halfway through the 2023 season.

If Sutton continues this scoring pace, Sutton is likely on his way to his first Pro Bowl nod since 2019 (he scored six times that season).
