Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton goes up against star cornerback Pat Surtain at practice and the veteran receiver has had nothing but praise for his younger teammate.
“Pat probably came out of the womb the way he is,” Sutton said earlier this week. “He oozes that aura of the way that he plays the position, the way that he goes about himself. The dude is a baller. I say that while also saying that he works his butt off. He comes out here. You see him when special teams is going on or offense is out there, he’s out there doing little footwork [drills] and steps and working on his hands. He’s a technical master.
“For him to still hone his craft even being at this point in his career where everyone knows that he’s the best corner in our game. For him to still be so diligent in his work, I think that says a lot about him. I know that he’s going to have a lot more AFC [Defensive] Player of the Week [honors], and AFC Player of the Month [honors]. All these accolades are going to continue to pile up for him just based upon who he is and the way he goes about himself.”
Through five games this season, Surtain has totaled 14 tackles, four pass breakups, two interceptions and one defensive touchdown. PS2 is the best cornerback in the NFL, and he’s making an early case to win Defensive Player of the Year this season. Sutton said it best: Surtain oozes aura.
