Broncos vs. Colts history: Series is even going into ‘TNF’

Throughout their histories, for better or for worse, the Denver Broncos and Indianapolis Colts have been inseparably connected, specifically through their quarterbacks.

In the 1983 NFL draft, the then-Baltimore Colts selected a Stanford quarterback by the name of John Elway. Elway made it clear that he did not want to play for the Colts. The Broncos made an offer Baltimore couldn’t refuse. It is needless to say, two Super Bowl wins later, Denver got the better end of the deal.

Twenty-nine years after the Elway trade, the Broncos signed yet another former Colts quarterback, Peyton Manning. Manning finished his Hall of Fame career in Denver, riding off into the sunset after winning Super Bowl 50.

On the field, the series history between the two teams is even, currently tied at 14 wins for each club.

The last time these two franchises played in 2019, the Colts came out on top with a 15-13 victory in Indianapolis. The game effectively and mercifully ended the Joe Flacco era as the Broncos quarterback.

This week, the Broncos will aim to pull off a win at home on a short week before getting a rest leading up to a Monday Night Football showdown with the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 6 on Oct. 17.
