Broncos signing pass rusher Randy Gregory to 5-year contract

The Denver Broncos have agreed to terms on a five-year contract with free agent pass rusher Randy Gregory, Vic Lombardi of Altitude Sports first reported Tuesday. The contract will not become official until the NFL’s new league year begins on Wednesday afternoon.

Gregory was initially believed to be re-signing with the Dallas Cowboys, but the edge defender pulled a “U-turn” and opted to sign with the Broncos instead, according to a report from NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

Gregory will receive the same five-year, $70 million contract from Denver that he was expected to receive from Dallas, according to multiple reports. The contract is worth an average of $14 million per season and includes $28 million guaranteed.

With Gregory joining the team, the Broncos will presumably be out on Chandler Jones and Von Miller, arguably the two best pass rushers available in free agency this year.

Gregory was Denver’s “top pass rush target” this offseason, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. He was a defensive end with the Cowboys but will likely play as an outside linebacker across from Bradley Chubb in the Broncos’ 3-4 defense.

Gregory, 29, played 50 games in Dallas, totaling 52 quarterback hits, 16.5 sacks, eight forced fumbles and one interception.
