In his latest three-round 2022 NFL mock draft for Draft Wire, Luke Easterling has the Denver Broncos selecting North Carolina State offensive lineman Ikem Ekwonu with the ninth overall pick in the first round.
Here is Easterling’s commentary for the Ekwonu selection:
Quarterback is a possibility here, but don’t be surprised if the Broncos look for a veteran instead of reaching for a rookie in a weak class here. Instead, they should use this pick to bolster the offensive line, and Ekwonu was an all-conference pick at both guard and tackle.
If Ekwonu does land in Denver, he would likely play as a tackle given that the team has good depth at guard but no long-term answer at right tackle.
Easterling’s mock draft has the Broncos later adding Alabama linebacker Christian Harris (No. 40) and Ohio State defensive lineman Haskell Garett (No. 60) in the second round.
Denver waits until the third round to pick a quarterback, selecting Nevada’s Carson Strong (No. 75) before later adding Georgia edge defender Nolan Smith (No. 91) to wrap up the three-round mock draft.
