Broncos roster series: No. 49, LB Alex Singleton

Broncos Wire’s 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at seventh-year linebacker Alex Singleton, No. 49.

Before the Broncos: Singleton (6-2, 240 pounds) has had quite the football journey. He went undrafted out of Montana State in 2015 and signed with the Seattle Seahawks, but failed to make their 53-man roster. Singleton then brief stints on the practice squads of the New England Patriots and Minnesota Vikings.

After failing to get on an active roster in the NFL, Singleton was picked by the Calgary Stampeders in the first round of the 2016 CFL draft. The linebacker opted to play in Canada and went on to win the CFL’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player Award in his second season. He was named a CFL All-Star in 2017 and 2018 and won a Grey Cup (Canada’s Super Bowl) following the 2018 season.

After an impressive three-year run in the CFL, Singleton signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2019. He went on to spend three years in Philly, totaling 257 tackles from 2020-2021.

Broncos tenure: Denver signed Singleton in 2022, initially planning to use him as a special teams player and rotational linebacker. Singleton ended up starting 12 games, though, and racked up 163 tackles. He started 16 games last season and led the club with 177 tackles. The Broncos then rewarded Signleton with a three-year, $18 million contract extension.

Chances to make the 53-man roster: Lock. Singleton is Denver’s best inside linebacker and he’s set to anchor the team’s defense again in 2024.
