After qualifying for the NFL playoffs, Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix is set to face Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card round.
If they upset the Bills on Sunday, the Broncos would then face Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round.
If they beat the Chiefs, Denver would most likely face Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship game (depending on other results in the AFC’s playoff bracket).
What’s it like for Nix to share the field who those high-profile QBs?
“It’s amazing,” Nix said, “but at the same, as a competitor, I want to be urgent, and I want to grow and develop into where I can compete and I’m on the same level as those guys. I’m not right now, but it’s cool to go play the potential MVP [Josh Allen] next week. It’s fun. It’s playoff time. This is what you prepare for throughout the year. This has been a goal of mine throughout the entire season.
“Pre-draft was like, ‘What’s your goal upcoming?’ and all this kind of stuff that you’re asked about in the process. I wanted to help a team make a playoff and push for a Super Bowl. I couldn’t have done it without the rest of the guys in this locker room, but this is when it gets fun as if it wasn’t already. This is when the great teams, they show up. We’re really looking forward to it. [We’re] working hard to become one of those great teams.”
If he’s going to establish himself as the real deal in the AFC, Nix will have to beat one of the best QBs in the NFL. Nix doesn’t play on defense, of course, but he will have to match — and top — Buffalo’s output on Sunday to get a win. Following an impressive rookie season, Nix’s playoff story begins now.
