Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix had a solid passing performance against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, throwing for 125 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions.
Perhaps slightly overlooked was Nix’s rushing performance. The quarterback had three carries for 17 yards, including a designed run with tight/end fullback Nate Adkins leading the way as a blocker.
The QB showed off his mobility throughout the game, extending plays to find receivers downfield or running himself.
“Very confident,” Nix said when asked after the game how confident he is in his ability to make plays with his legs. “I train for that, and I make sure that I work to keep some of that.
“It’s big when plays break down – it’s important to be able to extend plays. I think it’s really beneficial for the offense, and you never know when you will need it, so it’s always good to train it, and it’s good to have.”
Nix rushed 143 times for 744 yards and 20 touchdowns in two seasons at Oregon, so it’s no surprise that Broncos coach Sean Payton has schemed up designed running plays for the quarterback. Nix’s mobility is something to watch for when he starts against the Green Bay Packers in Week 2 of preseason.
