The Denver Broncos are expected to release quarterback Russell Wilson in the coming days, and his replacement might be a member of the 2024 NFL draft class.
The Broncos have been doing their due diligence on all the top quarterbacks in this year’s draft, including UNC’s Drake Maye. The 21-year-old QB prospect confirmed during his NFL combine media availability on Friday that he met with Denver’s staff earlier this week.
“It was awesome to meet with Coach [Sean] Payton,” Maye said, via DenverSports.com’s Andrew Mason. “I think any time you have one of the great offensive minds in [the room] — meeting with him was pretty cool.”
Maye also spoke well of Davis Webb, calling him “one of the great quarterback coaches you could play for.”
Maye is widely considered one of the top three QBs in this year’s class and he is expected to go off the board within the first three picks. The Broncos hold pick No. 12 in the first round, so if Denver wants to draft Maye, the team would have to trade up to make it happen.
This year’s NFL draft will be held in Detroit from April 25-27.
