Broncos lose to Jets 16-9, fall to 2-5

Filling in for an injured Russell Wilson, Denver Broncos quarterback Brett Rypien threw one interception and no touchdown passes in a 16-9 loss to the New York Jets on Sunday afternoon.

The Jets took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter after running back Breece Hall scored on a 62-yard run. Denver then matched that score with a two-yard Latavius Murray touchdown run, but kicker Brandon McManus missed the ensuing extra point attempt.

McManus later converted a 44-yard field goal to give the Broncos a 9-7 lead and New York matched that with a field goal of their own to take a 10-9 lead into halftime. The Jets never lost that lead, adding two more field goals in the second half to secure a win.

The Broncos’ defense had another strong showing with three sacks and only 105 net passing yards allowed. That defensive performance was squared once again though as the team’s offense failed to score more than 16 points for the sixth time through seven games.

On the injury front, Denver lost running back Mike Boone to an ankle injury in the first half and outside linebacker Barron Browning to a hip injury in the second half. Neither player returned to the game.

Up next for the Broncos is a trip to London to face the 2-5 Jacksonville Jaguars in a “road” game in Week 8.
