The Denver Broncos had a formal interview with Oregon State cornerback Alex Austin at the NFL combine last month, according to The Draft Network’s Ryan Fowler. NFL teams are allowed to have up to 45 formal visits with players at the combine each year.
Austin (6-1, 195 pounds) ran a 40-yard dash in 4.55 seconds and a 10-yard split in 1.54 seconds at the combine. He earned honorable mention All-Pac-12 recognition as a redshirt sophomore last fall.
Austin started 25 straight games in his final two seasons with the Beavers, totaling 105 tackles, 17 pass breakups, four interceptions, one forced fumble, one sack and one defensive touchdown from 2021-2022.
Most mock drafts have Austin going off the board in the fifth round, where the Broncos hold selection No. 139. Denver also holds pick No. 195 in the sixth round this year.
If selected by the Broncos, Austin would join a cornerback room in Denver that includes Pat Surtain, Damarri Mathis and K’Waun Williams.
The 2023 NFL draft will be held in Kansas City from April 27-29.
