Broncos gave away Russell Wilson’s jersey number

The Denver Broncos will have a new quarterback in 2024, and a new No. 3.

After parting ways with Russell Wilson, the Broncos are now immediately giving away the quarterback’s old jersey number.

Denver kicker Wil Lutz, who re-signed with the team on a two-year deal this week, will switch from No. 16 to No. 3 this offseason. The kicker hinted at the change when he signed a “3” under his name in a post on the team’s official Twitter/X page on Tuesday.

The news was later confirmed by Chris Tomasson of the Denver Gazette: Lutz is switching back to No. 3, the number he formerly wore with the New Orleans Saints.

Lutz wore No. 3 with the Saints from 2016-2022 before being traded to the Broncos last summer. When he arrived, No. 3 was already worn by Wilson. The quarterback is now set to be released this week after he went 11-19 as a starter from 2022-2023. So, the number now belongs to Lutz.

The Broncos now have the kicker position sorted, but the team is still seeking a quarterback to replace Wilson. We are tracking all of Denver’s free agency moves on Broncos Wire.
